Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry announced that a high-level panel of judges is scheduled to meet on Sunday to select the winners of the 9th cycle of the annual Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum (MRM) Business Award and the 1st cycle of the MRM Business
Innovation Award.
The high-profile awards ceremony, organised by Dubai Chamber, is set to be held on Tuesday at Madinat Jumeirah Arena under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.
The panel is chaired by Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, UAE Minister of Economy and Chairman of the MRM Business Award, and comprises of local and international experts. Joining the panel are: Mohammed Ahmed Bin Abdulaziz Al-Shehhi Undersecretary for Economic Affairs, Ministry of Economy; Fadi F. Farra Co-Founder & Partner, Whiteshield Partners; Angela Kok, Management Committee SPRING – Singapore Quality Award; Selvakumar Shanmugam, Management Committee SPRING – Singapore Quality Award; and Mr. Duke Urbanik, Co-Founder of The Venture Generator and Yes! Delft Entrepreneur in Residence.
The steering committee for the MRM Business Award will be led by Hamad Buamim, President & CEO, Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and Dr Belaid Rettab, Senior Director of the Economic Research & Sustainable Business Development Sector.
The judges will select the winners from a list of shortlisted applicants that come from the UAE and other GCC countries. The awards cover seven categories, namely Trade, Finance, Manufacturing, Services, Construction, Re-Export, Transport and Logistics.
Al Mansouri highlighted the growing significance of the award programmes, and noted that the MRM Business Award observed a 40% increase in the number of applicants who scored over the excellence threshold relative to last year.
He added that this substantial growth is a testimony to the strong appreciation for incorporating sustainable practices among businesses in the UAE and GCC, and ultimately reflects the evolving competitive landscape in the region.
For his part, H.E. Buamim stated that the jury panel’s vast experience in the area of excellence and innovation will add value to the awards,
and further enhance their reputation.
H.E. Buamim added that Dubai Chamber has finalised its preparations to host the awards, which are considered to be the highest level of recognition for attaining business excellence and innovation within the GCC.
The MRM Business Award, a member of Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, was initiated in 2005 to recognise and celebrate the success of organisations that contribute to the sustainable development of economies within the UAE and GCC.
The MRM Business Innovation Award was launched by the Chamber in in collaboration with the UAE Ministry of Economy at a global conference in 2015 during the Year of Innovation.
