KHARTOUM / WAM

Hamad Mohamed Humaid Al Junaibi, the UAE Ambassador to Sudan, signed a contract to build four model villages with 1,200 traditional ‘Qateya’ housing units in the Sudanese state of Kassala, which will benefit over 5,000 people.
He signed the agreement on behalf of the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), in the presence of the Secretary-General of the Sudanese Red Crescent, Dr. Othman Jaafar Al Amin.
The agreement is part of a series of the ERC’s construction and rehabilitation projects to help the victims of last year’s autumn floods in Sudan, as part of several memorandums of understanding signed by them and the Sudanese Red Crescent last October, to set up a number of projects amounting to AED6.238 million.
Dr Othman Jaafar Al Amin expressed his appreciation for the leadership and the people of the UAE for their generous support to Sudan and its people through the many humanitarian and charitable projects, as well those to support Sudanese orphans. He clarified the
inclusion of the four model villages of Hamshkorib, Akla, Qalsa and Ardeet in the state of Kassala, and said that work would be completed within six months.
The project manager of the consultation authority said that the buildings are specially made with the goal of improving the environment for refugees and the victims of heavy rains and floods. They are also expected to provide other needs such as electricity, water and health services, according to the standards of the ERC.
