UAE chairs Arab League meet for Arab Media Day

The UAE on Sunday chaired the second meeting of experts at the Arab League to discuss arrangements for the Arab Media Day 2017, at the Arab League headquarters.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Executive Director of the Emirates News Agency (WAM) Mohammed Jalal Al Raisi, Ambassador Dr. Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States and others.
The UAE presided over the meeting in Cairo, in its capacity as the chairman of the 46th session of the Arab Information Ministers’ Council.
In his speech at the event, Al Raisi stressed the importance of the meeting to deliver a message to the world about the importance of honouring media professionals in recognition to their efforts and sacrifices in various areas to deliver facts properly and professionally.
He wished that the preparatory meeting for the Arab Media Day 2017 would contribute towards achieving its desired goals.
The meeting also discussed a proposal presented by the Arab League’s Secretariat General to select radio as the theme of the second Arab Media Excellence Award 2017, in recognition to its powerful influence and impact. It has been existing for over 100 years and still a reliable source of information. It has had a critical impact upon the lives of communities as it reached a wider audience.
The meeting also tackled the issue of special arrangements to organise the first celebration of the Arab Media Day, to be held on 24 and 25 May under the theme ”The Role of Arab Media in Countering Terrorism.” The award-presentation ceremony will be held on the margins of the 47th meeting of the Arab Information Ministers’ Council.
