Tadweer celebrated its 5-day long Occupational Environment, Health & Safety (OEHS), Week for 2016. With its two strategic partners, the initiative is aimed at promoting a culture of occupational environment, safety and health for its employees, contractors and community. The Universal Hospital conducted various health and well-being initiatives and National Trading and Pharmaceuticals (NTPE) organised
activities for Heat Stress Awareness.
Commenting on the Occupational Health & Safety Week, Eisa Saif Al Qubaisi, General Manager of Tadweer, said, “Health and safety is the most important aspect at workplace and we strive to do our best in ensuring our employees’ well-being. We would like to express our gratitude to our partners who helped us in making this initiative a grand success.” This initiative reflects Tadweer’s strategy to support the Occupational Health and Safety Plan in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
The OEHS week started with a Memorandum of Understanding signed between Tadweer and Universal Hospital of Abu Dhabi to work jointly on monitoring occupational health risks and staff well-being programmes. The healthcare experts from Universal Hospital did a presentation on Occupational Health Monitoring and explained on how to monitor the health at work for different types of staff such as drivers, workers, office staff, etc.
NTPE organised a Heat Stress awareness campaign, informing the staff and contractors about the best possible methods to avoid, reduce the heat stress and how to ensure health in heat. Various awareness posters, handbooks, brochures and electrolyte samples were distributed. A survey was conducted to capture employees’ general health, as a basis for developing a comprehensive plan to monitor occupational health at the center and take action to set a preventive plan to vaccinate the staff against any health risks.
On May 31, in accordance with the International No Tobacco Day, Tadweer configured a No Smoking screen saver in addition to an EHS Bulletin on anti-smoking, which informed employees’ on various health benefits of managing a smoke-free work environment.
On the occasion of World Environment Day, Tadweer honoured 9 schools in the ‘Less waste More Beautiful Emirate 2015’ school awareness programme. During the event, the students gave a brief presentation about the programmes in which they participated, as well as presented special performances.
Based on the Occupational Environment, Safety and Health system, approved by OSHAD, Tadweer’s Health and Safety Department conducted a workshop on the theme, “Report Right at the First Time”. The workshop explained on how waste sector entities should report to Tadweer on Quarterly EHS Performance and how to report precisely in case of any incident through “Al Adaa”, the electronic portal of OSHAD.
The events organised during the Occupational Environment, Health and Safety Week 2016 witnessed remarkable participation in various competitions and activities. The employees were recognised with gifts and certificates in appreciation of their contribution and involvement in various events.
