Prices of 12 building materials down in April

Statistics Centre – Abu Dhabi (SCAD) issued on Saturday its monthly report on the prices of building materials for the month of April 2016, compared with March 2016 and April 2015.
The report presents an analysis of the movements in the prices of the various materials used in the construction industry in Abu Dhabi retail market through year over year and month over month comparisons.
As SCAD’s report finds, varying changes were observed in the average prices of building materials groups during April 2016 compared with March 2016, with increases ranging between 21.1 percent for the ‘Steel’ group and 0.2 percent for Wood and Wires for apartments, while decreases ranged from 9.3 percent for Construction labour costs to 0.4 percent Glass for the Glass group.
According to SCAD’s report, the largest rise was observed in the prices of the Steel group, which advanced 21.2 percent in April 2016 compared with March 2016. The second largest rise in average prices during April 2016 compared with March 2016 was observed in the ‘Diesel’ group (up 11.4 percent). The average prices of groups of Waterproofing products, Cement and Wood increased by 4.2 percent, 0.4 and 0.2 percent respectively in April 2016 compared with March 2016.
On the other hand the average wages of Construction labour decreased by 9.3 percent in April 2016 compared with March 2016.
The average prices of the groups of Tiles and marble, power cables and Glass decreased by 2.0, 1.1 and 0.4 percent respectively in April 2016 compared with March 2016, the report added.
SCAD reported decreases in the average monthly prices of 12 groups of building materials during April 2016 compared with April 2015.
