Oman Power, WPC to sign MoUs for Barka Project

Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (WPC) — a member of Nama Group — the sole procurer of all power generation and water desalination capacity in the Sultanate, is going to sign a number of agreements to establish the Barka Desalination Plant (Phase 4) with a consortium of ITOCHU Corporation, SUEZ, ENGIE and WJ Towell & Co LLC at a ceremony that will be held at Crown Plaza Muscat on Thursday.
The scope of the Project which will be located in Barka in Batina South governorate includes the design, construction, ownership, operation and maintenance of a high efficiency reverse osmosis desalination facilities with total of 281,000 m3 per day (61.8 million gallon per day) of Potable Water output.
The project will be structured as Independent Water Project (IWP) with OPWP purchasing the Potable Water produced by the project under a Water Purchase Agreement with a term of 20 years. ITOCHU Corporation will hold a 36% stake in the project, SUEZ and ENGIE will each hold 27%, and WJ Towell & Co LLC will hold the remaining 10 per cent of the project, is due to begin operations by January 2018.
