The most awaited Maserati Polo Tour gains momentum with excellent off-road in focus. The tournament would continue in Dubai this week, following the first challenge that took place at the Desert Palm Polo Club.
Umberto Cini, Managing Director, Maserati Middle East, India & Africa, told Emirates Business, “Maserati has a natural synergy with ‘the sport of kings’, a sport that always combines elegance and passion. The United Arab Emirates is a key player in the global polo community and we are proud to be part of this community by hosting our first title Polo Cup in Dubai, as part of the 2016 Maserati Polo Tour.
The event will be played over five days, four talented polo teams, featuring both professional and amateur players from the UK, Europe, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Argentina, produced both competitive and entertaining polo, much to the delight of Maserati’s guests. They were joined by a hand-selected audience of VIPs and special guests from the individual team sponsors, which included Gulfstream, Scavi & Ray and Desert Palm.
“We are also very excited to display Maserati’s first-ever luxuy SUV, the Levante, at the event. It is the newest addition to our model portfolio and it embodies everything Maserati stands for: sportiness, luxury, craftsmanship and exclusivity with a dash of Italian style,” he said. The winning team, featuring Team Patrons Tariq Albwardy (UAE, Handicap 1) and Sam Instone (UK, 0) as well as Martin Gandara (ARG, 4) and Matias Machado (ARG, 4), narrowly won the final, only going ahead to win the match in the last chukka. Their opponents, Team Maserati, put up a strong fight on Desert Palm’s impressive hotel grounds, but could not score enough goals to put the match into extra time. Third place was claimed by Gulfstream, who beat Scavi & Ray in the Trident Trophy.
