The signing took place while His Excellency Dr Thani Ahmed Alzeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment visited the DLD headquarters, and met His Excellency Sultan Butti Bin Mejren, Director General of DLD.
The agreement’s objective is to consolidate the plans of both parties to jointly contribute towards the achievement of UAE’s ’Vision 2021’ and the ‘Dubai Plan 2021’, both core focal points of the UAE Government, in particular aspects which relate to the promotion of strategic partnerships between federal and local government agencies through appropriate regulatory frameworks.
The MoU sets out an intention to form a joint group comprised of specialists from both parties to work towards areas of cooperation, and prepare a detailed action plan which lays out the roles and responsibilities of both groups.
Commenting on the MoU, HE Dr. Thani Alzeyoudi, said: “In line with the vision and directives of the UAE leadership, the ministry has developed key objectives, where we will intensify our efforts to improve the quality of our products and services. Through agreements such as this, we aim to establish a motivating corporate environment and promote an enhanced framework for cooperation between federal and local entities. This will also encourage the private sector to increase their participation in building a highly skilful workforce empowered with remarkable talent to achieve sustainable environmental, economic and social development, while involving all sectors of the community.”
On his part, HE Sultan Butti Bin Mejren said: “In line with our continued efforts to provide outstanding services to all of our customers, we are pleased to consolidate and promote partnerships and cooperation with various governmental and local institutions, working in perfect harmony with the directives of the UAE’s wise leadership. The Memorandum of Understanding we have reached with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment will enable us to launch joint projects that focus upon innovation which promotes the UAE, and works towards making it a high-ranking destination to work, invest and visit.”
Furthermore, both parties will coordinate efforts to implement joint electronic projects, aimed at ensuring successful execution and fast delivery of services. The two parties will harness the partnership to achieve the Government’s vision of strengthening and consolidating the country’s position as the region’s financial, business, tourism and knowledge hub.
Bin Mejren continued: “The MOU will assist in enhancing cooperation across technical, informational and sustainability fields, and will also contribute towards supporting efforts undertaken at all governmental and private levels to achieve the national climate change goals. The MOU will lead to concerted efforts towards cooperation in the management of the Dubai Sustainable Cities Centre – a programme created in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme. The relationship will also provide the benefit of joining the UAE delegation to the United Nations, ensuring we have a seat at the table of United Nations meetings relating to the environment and climate change.”
The MOU also seeks to build effective partnerships to achieve common strategic objectives, realised by improved performance of processes, and the simplification of procedures. Moreover, efforts will focus upon the development and improvement of customer services, including the enhancement of communication between the ministry and the department through the development of an e-link.
Both parties are committed to this agreement, which lasts for one year and is renewable. The Ministry and DLD will exchange knowledge, expertise, research and mutual institutional experiences at all levels, with the aim of supporting innovation and creativity, achieved through this institutional partnership.
