The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry recently organised a series of charitable activities to mark Zayed Humanitarian Day and the support the UAE’s Year of
Giving initiative.
Organised in collaboration with the Angel Appeal charitable initiative, more than 100 Chamber employees volunteered their time to pack 1,000 Ramadan gift packs containing personal items and distributed them to dhow sailors working at Dubai Creek.
Chamber staff also filled and distributed 200 food packages to needy families across Dubai in an effort to spread the spirit of giving during Ramadan.
Essa Al Zaabi, Senior Vice President – Institutional Support Sector at Dubai Chamber, said that Zayed Humanitarian Day serves as a reminder to follow the example of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE’s founding father, whose humanitarian legacy still lives on, and pointed out that the UAE is now one of the world’s top donors of foreign aid.
He explained that the charitable efforts organised for Zayed Humanitarian Day complement other initiatives led by the Chamber during Ramadan, which include hosting and sponsoring activities for the 20th session of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award.
Earlier this year, H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, declared 2017 as the Year of Giving in the UAE. The National Strategy for the Year of Giving comprises over 1,000 initiatives and programmes which cover six main themes, namely corporate social responsibility (CSR), volunteerism, the developmental role of humanitarian organisations, legislative systems and government policies, media, and serving the
nation.
