Al Ain Museum is presenting a varied programme of cultural and educational activities this September, bringing together expert-led talks, creative workshops and back-to-school experiences inspired by Emirati heritage.
Highlights include Museum Talks exploring the archaeology and ancient history of Al Ain and the UAE, alongside interactive activities that encourage visitors to engage with traditional materials, motifs and objects in creative new ways.
Running from 7 September to 1 October, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM, the Back to School programme offers school students a themed interactive experience featuring creative workshops inspired by Emirati heritage. Students can select school supplies from the Al Ain Museum Bus Model and personalise notebooks, pencils and rulers using traditional crafts such as Talli and Sadu. They can also enjoy a themed photo booth and take home an instant souvenir photograph.
On 11 and 18 September, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Bedazzle Your Brush invites visitors to decorate and personalise their own hairbrushes with colourful embellishments.
Families can take part in Doll Making on 12 September, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, creating a simple heritage-inspired doll while learning about traditional Emirati garments such as the kandoura, abaya and shayla. Participants will select fabrics, decorate their dolls and dress them in traditional clothing..
On 17 September, from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Al Ain Museum will host a Museum Talks lecture with Dr Maria Pellegrino, who will explore the transition from the Wadi Suq period to the Iron Age in the UAE. The talk will highlight archaeological evidence and its importance in understanding the ancient history and cultural development of Al Ain.
The programme continues on 19 September, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, with Threads That Weave a Tale, a creative workshop developed in collaboration with Souline. Exploring the legacy and contributions of Emirati women through embroidery art, the workshop invites participants to work with reproductions of historical photographs of Emirati women, adding colourful patterns and stitches to create their own interpretations. Registration is required.
On 25 September, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM, visitors can join Bedazzle Your Medkhan & Money Bank, decorating their own medkhan and money bank with colourful gems.
Throughout the month, visitors can also experience Conservator in Action every Friday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. This live experience offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the conservation of museum collections, with specialists working in the galleries and sharing insights into how artefacts are cared for and preserved.
Also taking place every Friday from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Family Friday offers a dedicated day for families to discover the museum together through a museum tour, exhibition-inspired workshops and a reading circle or film screening.
