In keeping with the spirit of the Holy Month of Ramadan, Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) hosted a religious lecture delivered by Taleb Al Shehhi, Director of Preaching Department at the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments and Vice Chairman of Sharia Committee at Zakat Fund. The lecture aimed to increase the awareness of ADFD staff on the spiritual importance and values associated with the Holy Month.
In his lecture, Al Shehhi highlighted the characteristics and uniqueness of Ramadan when the Holy Quran was first revealed to the Prophet Muhammed (Peace be upon him). He also elaborated on the significance of Laylat Al-Qadr (the Night of Power) – which Muslims believe is the most important time to worship Allah – even better than worshipping Him over 1,000 months at other times.
He explained that the first one-third of the Holy Month is considered days of mercy for all, while the next 10 days are the days of forgiveness, and the last one-third of the month represents freedom from hell fire.
Al Shehhi also underlined the fact that the Holy Month is a time for reflection, giving, worship and self-examination. He urged the audience to strengthen their faith in the Almighty Allah and utilize this occasion to achieve self-discipline and self-purification through fasting.
At the conclusion of the lecture, Al Shehhi thanked ADFD for its sustained efforts in supporting developing countries with achieving improved livelihoods and living conditions for their people. He highlighted that the country abided by the vision and legacy of the founding father of the UAE, late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, to always help others in need.
