ABU DHABI / WAM

Under the patronage of HH Sheikh Khalid bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination (ZHO), the emirate of Abu Dhabi will host, for the first time in the Middle East region, the World Congress on Rehabilitation 2024 under the theme “Work and Employment”.
The conference will take place from September 23-25, organised by Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec), reaffirming its status as a preferred destination for global meetings, conferences, and exhibitions, and confirming its leadership in attracting international activities and events.
The organisation has announced the commencement of receiving scientific research and presentations aimed at enriching the knowledge and experiences of conference participants.
The conference is held in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Convention and Exhibition Bureau at the Department of Culture and Tourism, and the Adnec Abu Dhabi. This global event, spanning over 4 days, provides an ideal platform bringing together officials in the rehabilitation and healthcare sector, experts, researchers, and concerned academics to discuss ideas, exchange experiences, learn about best practices, and utilise technological means to rehabilitate people of determination and integrate them into societies.
The conference aims to explore common visions regarding the integration of people of determination into societies, raise awareness about their rights, capabilities, and importance in the developmental process. It seeks to discuss the global challenges they face, overcome barriers hindering their integration into the workforce, ensure equality with others, address their marginalisation and deprivation of rights in employment. The conference emphasises the necessity to train and rehabilitate them through training and development programs to enable their entry into the job market, enhance their career advancement opportunities in both the public and private sectors. Additionally, it aims to benefit from successful experiences of countries in caring for them, exchange perspectives and opinions regarding their rehabilitation in all fields and provide all necessary care for them.
The World Congress on Rehabilitation 2024 aims to involve people of determination in political and public life, grant them the right to participate in candidacy and voting in elections, hold leadership positions, engage in decision-making processes, shaping the future and developmental plans. It underscores that education is a fundamental right, ensuring a comprehensive educational system at all levels and empowering them to acquire multiple skills in all fields and use appropriate technological means.
Abdullah Al Hameidan, Secretary-General of ZHO, stated, “Hosting the World Congress on Rehabilitation 2024 demonstrates the UAE’s status and capability, along with its significant success factors for various events and occasions. This is alongside its integrated infrastructure and fundamental pillars, under the wise leadership’s support for development and growth across various fields.” He added, “Hosting the conference reflects the UAE’s commitment in general, and Abu Dhabi specifically, to empower people of determination. It shows their keenness to invest in their rehabilitation and training to become active contributors to the country’s journey of development and prosperity across all levels. As we continue preparations for organising this global event, we are pleased to invite interested parties to submit their research, practical studies, and innovative projects that contribute to enriching knowledge, experiences, and discussions about best practices in rehabilitation, both in the UAE and globally.” Interested individuals must submit summaries by April 25 2024, with further information regarding abstract submission available through the following link: Abstract Submission — WCR2024 (wcri2024ad.com).
