The UAE ports are among the world’s largest ports in terms of advanced equipment, capabilities, shipping and unloading, Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Minister of Infrastructure Development and Chairman of the Federal Transport Authority – Land and Maritime, has said.
He added that the UAE has been ranked first at the Arab level and10th globally for several years in a row in the field of cross-border trade, thanks to the support of the wise leadership to the maritime and land transportation sector.
In an exclusive interview with Emirates News Agency (WAM), Dr. Al Nuaimi stressed the desire of the authority to unify the visions in this vital sector in terms of planning, coordination and legislation to achieve various ambitions at the local, regional and international levels.
He praised the largest new cabinet reshuffle in the history of the federal government ordered by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and announced by Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Dr. Al Nuaimi noted, “This is a paradigm shift for those involved in organisational structures and institutional stakeholders. There is no way to cross over to the future, using the tools of the past, because significant developmental achievements cannot be attained without innovative ideas and new blood.”
The minister said the maritime transport sector in the UAE is witnessing a remarkable growth in the areas of ports, operation and maintenance, shipbuilding, drydocks, finance and insurance in accordance with the international standards on safety and protection of the marine environment and its security.
