UOS, EU delegation host 1st Model EU Simulation in UAE

The University of Sharjah (UOS), through its College of Public Policy, hosted the first Model European Union (Model EU) Simulation Game, under the theme “EU-GCC Digital Cooperation,” in collaboration with the European Union delegation to the UAE and the Centre for Security, Diplomacy, and Strategy (VUB) over two days.
This educational initiative aims to empower students and develop their skills in leadership, conflict resolution, negotiation, public speaking, and diplomacy through a simulation training programme designed to deepen their understanding of the functioning of European institutions.
Prof Hamid M K Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, welcomed attendees on behalf of Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah. He emphasised the importance of organising such interactive events, which enable students to apply their knowledge, thereby developing their understanding of international relations and keeping pace with the rapid changes in politics and diplomacy.
He added that collaboration with the European Union reflects the University of Sharjah’s commitment to supporting the country’s vision and strengthening the university’s position as a leading educational institution in the region. Lucie Berger, Ambassador of the European Union to the UAE, emphasised that the event reflects the strong commitment to enhancing the strategic partnership between the EU and the UAE across all policy areas. She highlighted that the EU Simulation Model is an awareness-raising and capacity-building programme for UAE youth, offering students hands-on experience to deepen their understanding of European Union institutions, decision-making processes, and the EU’s role in global affairs.
Additionally, the programme provides a valuable opportunity for students to test their skills in negotiation, public speaking, and critical thinking.
The event featured simulation sessions where students, under the guidance of the VUB, represented EU member states and engaged in discussions on political, economic, social, and environmental issues that align with current European priorities.
The event concluded with the announcement of students recognised as outstanding delegates representing EU member states, including Mohammed Amro, Delegate of France; Mujdoleen Ali, Delegate of Germany; and Shamaylah Viquar, Delegate of Czechia. They were chosen based on criteria such as knowledge, correct application of EU rules of procedure, negotiation skills, clarity of expression, and understanding of the EU’s decision-making processes. In addition, students Asmua Ali, Riyam Nashwan, and Maryam Al Nakabi were honoured for their exemplary representation of the European Commission and recognised for their efforts in
understanding EU policies.
The event was attended by Prof Yousef Haik, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the university, alongside EU ambassadors and representatives from European embassies and consulates.
