His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, on Monday received the visiting President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud, at Al Shati Palace.
Sheikh Mohamed welcomed the Somali President and his accompanying delegation. The Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and President Mohamoud discussed bilateral relations and ways to enhance them in the best interest of the two fraternal peoples and countries.
They also tackled bilateral ties and the UAE’s role to implement development, economic and humanitarian projects in Somalia for the benefit of its fraternal peoples as well as ways to provide all support to build its future and achieve stability, security and development.
President Mohamoud briefed Sheikh Mohamed on the latest positive development in Somalia, especially in the areas of security and stability. But he indicated that the threat of terrorism still exists. He extended thanks to the UAE for its continuous efforts in ensuring the security and stability in Somalia.
The two sides exchanged views
on co-operation and promoting
economic sectors, especially livestock, agricultural and transportation. Sheikh Mohamed hoped for further development and welfare of Somalia, and noted that the UAE, led by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is the main supporter of the development projects in Somalia, and backs the Somali people to tackle terrorism and violence.
The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi confirmed the UAE’s continuous support for the Somali government and people, praising the efforts of the Somali President during the past four years.
The Somali President extended his thanks and appreciation to the UAE under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa for its continuous initiatives to alleviate the sufferings of the Somali people, and commended the personal efforts and support of Sheikh Mohamed in the hard times of Somalia to restore the state and enhance security and stability.
They also discussed the latest regional developments and issues of mutual concern.
Among those who attended the meeting were HH Sheikh Khalid bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Dr. Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and Mohamed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Under-Secretary of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court.
While on the Somali side, Dr. Abdusalam H. Omer, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Investment Promotion of the Federal Republic of Somalia, and Abdul Qader Mohammed Hatami Sheikhi, Somali Ambassador to the UAE, attended the meeting.
