The General Authority for Regulating the Telecommunications Sector (TRA) announced supporting the efforts exerted by the National Academic Institutions (NAI), authorities and universities to participate in the activities of the ITU’s three sectors: the Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU–T), the Telecommunication Development Sector (ITU–D), and the Radio communication Sector
(ITU–R). TRA has recently approved the joining of the Higher Colleges of Technology to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and it’s currently exerting immense efforts to support the participation of Zayed University in this prestigious UN
organization.
In this context, HE Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, UAE TRA Director General, “The academic sector is a vital contributor to the development process as it plays an enlightening and knowledge -based role. It is also a key partner in fortifying UAE’s leadership in various sectors. Our support to the national academic authorities comes in the framework of the wise leadership’s directives and strategies that aim at empowering young national competencies, and preparing a generation of experts able to lead and keep up with the rapidly changing ICT Sector. We granted this approval to the national universities to implement the ITU’s resolutions that were made during the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2014 in Korea.â€
