Sharjah Ruler opens AQU’s cultural identity confab

His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah and President of Al Qasimia University (AQU), on Thursday opened the first International Conference for the AQU under the theme, ‘Our Identity in our historic and heritage memory.”
The conference is jointly organised by the University of Sharjah in association with Sharjah Heritage Institute and Hamdan bin Mohammad Heritage Centre (HHC).
Sheikh Sultan also opened two parallel exhibitions, the first about manuscripts, which is being organised by the Juma AI Majid Center for Culture and Heritage in Dubai, and the other about Islamic civilisation, which is being held by the Sharjah Museums Department.
In his welcoming address at the conference, Dr. Rashad Salem, Vice Chancellor of AQU, said the event’s theme reflects Sheikh Sultan’s vision for building the civilizational profile of Sharjah and its aspirations shaping the present and exploring a glorious future.
”The nation’s heritage and history remain the solid bedrock of cultural, civilizational and urban identity and a source of pride in the past, and present, and a benchmark for the future,” he added.
A group of specialists and experts from the UAE, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Portugal, France, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria and Iraq will address a wide-range of thematic topics of cultural identity, heritage, history as well as challenges facing Arab-Muslim identity.
