Noura Al Kaabi to talk about evolution of women’s empowerment in UAE

The first session of Sharjah Media Centre’s fifth Ramadan Majlison Sunday at Al Majaz Amphitheatre, Sharjah, is set to begin on a high note with high-profile UAE figures including Noura Al Kaabi, UAE Minister of State for Federal National Council Affairs, and Khawla Al Mulla, Chairperson of Sharjah Consultative Council, leading the “Women Leading Excellence Dialogue”.
The first session of Ramadan Majlis is dedicated to the evolution of women’s empowerment in the UAE from the establishment of the Union until the present day. Other participants include Dr Mona Al Bahar, Acting CEO of Al Jalila Cultural Centre for Children, and Aisha Sultan (moderator) founder and director of Dar Waraq Publishing House, Dubai.
Lauding the Sharjah Media Centre’s initiative to turn the spotlight on the role of women in the UAE’s march of progress, Noura Al Kaabi said: “Women’s experience in the UAE is an important one that began with the establishment of the State of the Union by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.”
She said that she is looking forward to highlighting the strong support extended by the UAE since its inception to women so they could play a full role in society and Sheikh Zayed’s view of women as one of the UAE society’s main pillars and as men’s partners in advancing the process of development and the achievement of the objectives of the UAE. She said that thanks to the support extended by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, the UAE women have been a strong pillar of the progress and development witnessed in the UAE.
She said: “Sharjah Media Centre’s initiative of holding such Ramadan sessions to discuss topics covering all areas of interest to the community, and the centre’s keenness to attract intellectuals, opinion leaders and scholars well-known in these areas has become the focus of attention of many, particularly the media, which has been keen to cover these sessions and to shed light on any proactive or innovative idea for the advancement of society.”
The proceedings of the first session of this year’s Ramadan Majlis will also see simultaneous translation and interpretation in English for the benefit of those who cannot follow Arabic.
Sharjah Media Centre (SMC) is celebrating the Holy Month of Ramadan by hosting the Ramadan Majlis, from June 12 to 20. Held in a special Ramadan tent on Al Majaz Island in the heart of Khalid Lagoon, the Ramadan Majlis will see five intellectually stimulating sessions with a galaxy of public figures, intellectuals, artists, scholars, authors, sportspersons and media personalities taking part in debates and interactive discussions in the spirit of promoting a culture of dialogue.
Headlined “In the Culture of Dialogue”, the fifth Ramadan Majlis sessions will be held after the Taraweeh prayers and once again promises to be highly interactive and fruitful covering a gamut of issues and interests. The SMC Ramadan Majlis will see the presence of high-profile public figures, including ministers, artists, intellectuals and sports personalities who will share their experiences and views with the select audience.
Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Chairman of Sharjah Media Centre, said: “The Ramadan Majlis initiative is part of our efforts to highlight the cultural vision of Sharjah which believes in promoting dialogue and respect for others, harmony, love, and tolerance among all sections of the community and larger humanity.”
He said: “We are looking to use the SMC Ramadan Majlis as a platform for meaningful intellectual dialogue, in line with the approach of the Emirate of Sharjah and the UAE in promoting tolerance and building a culture of dialogue. Dialogue is important within the Islamic culture and necessary to exchange knowledge during sessions that discuss various issues and concerns facing society.”
The Ramadan Majlis is a pioneering initiative by SMC to raise and discuss a wide spectrum of issues before the community, with the help of distinguished experts, innovators, intellectuals, writers and artists from across the Arab world.
