Law for setting up Dubai Data Establishment issued

In his capacity as Ruler of Dubai, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has issued Law No (2) of 2016 establishing Dubai Data Establishment (DDE), with the aim to support the Dubai Smart City strategy to transform Dubai into the smartest city in the world by 2017.
Meanwhile, HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, approved the Executive Council’s Resolution No (12) of 2016, appointing Younis Abdul Aziz Al Haj Mahmoud Al Ali as Executive Director of Dubai Data Establishment in addition to his position as Deputy Director General of the Dubai Smart City Office.
The DDE aims to enhance Dubai’s capabilities in the field of publishing and exchanging data, and contribute to establishing a knowledge database to serve the public and private sectors, as well coordinate among government entities to ensure implementation of the articles of this Law.
Pursuant to the new Law, DDE is responsible for the enforcement of this Law and may carry out any prescribed activities in this regard in collaboration with the Dubai Electronic Security Centre.
