Knowledge without Borders (KwB), the Sharjah-based cultural initiative which provided more than 2 million free books to the Emirate’s residents with its ‘Home Library’ project, launched a photo-focussed social media competition where two winners are given an ipad every day until February 1.
Called ‘My Home Library’, entrants should take the most creative photos of the libraries they received from KwB, share them through Instagram or Twitter, and link them to KwB’s accounts using the hashtag.
Rashid Al Kous, General Manager of KwB, said: “Distributing books as part of the Home Library project is only the initial stage. At KwB, we know it is vital to not just provide the books, we must follow-up and ensure there is an ongoing interaction with them and that they are associated with enjoyment, education and entertainment.”
“The ‘My Home Library’ competition will be followed by other activities and events that enriches the cultural sphere and promotes Sharjah as the region’s capital of culture,” he added. “The competition is instrumental in promoting reading as a daily activity among families and individuals of all ages.”
Reflecting Sharjah’s focus on investing in building a knowledge-based society, the Home Library project distributed 42,366 home libraries, each comprising 50 books with the overall number of distributed books exceeding two million.
KwB was launched by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah and is supervised by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Head of its Organising Committee.
The Home Library is one of the most significant projects launched by KwB and aims to establish reading as a noble habit in every household in the UAE. This includes equipping these libraries with the best reading material across a variety of genres suitable for the whole family in alignment with Sharjah’s development plans, which are aimed at building a better future for individuals and communities.
