The mobile library of Knowledge without Borders (KwB) — the Sharjah-based cultural project — has concluded its visits for the first five months of the year. A major component of KwB’s strategy to bring reading within reach of all, the library’s 2016 tour schedule to date has seen it visit almost 250 locations in the UAE, with its stops taking place at schools, further education establishments, government organisations and private bodies across the length and breadth of the emirates.
KwB’s mobile library tour of the emirates has so far reached Sharjah Police Science Academy, Sharjah Used Book Fair, Dubai Police and the National Archives in Abu Dhabi, as well as numerous schools and education centres and many other public and private bodies. The literary facility on wheels was established to be in alignment with the project’s objectives of spreading awareness about the importance of reading, promoting a love of books among Emirati people and enhancing KwB’s relations with public and private entities in the UAE.
“Despite the impressive figure of almost 250 destinations reached by the KwB mobile library from the start of 2016 until now, we consider that we have only just started the project. Our future tour for this important literary vehicle includes visiting the majority of government authorities and departments in the UAE. We also aim to participate in various initiatives, events and fairs which are organised all over the country as part of our efforts to promote reading and to provide books to community members in all areas,†said Rashid Al Kous, General Manager of KwB.
Al Kous called on government departments and private organisations to contact organisers at KwB to choose the most convenient time at which the KwB mobile library can visit them, giving the contact number: 06 556 7780.
He pointed out that the mobile library will intensify its visit schedule during the next phase, particularly during the month of October, which has been designated the Month of Reading in the UAE.
KwB’s mobile library comprises hundreds of displayed books which are distributed in such a way to facilitate easy recognition and finding of titles. It provides projectors and other devices to display e-books
and e-stories and also offers a reading club.
The vehicle is visiting schools, cultural institutions, private companies and public places with the aim
of achieving an active presence and organising literature-related activities for its visitors, including storytelling, reading sessions and interactive competitions.
