The Khalifa Foundation (KF) is implementing a Ramadan food assistance programme for the Rohingya refugees in Malaysia under the supervision of the UAE Embassy in the southeast Asian country.
A foundation source said an iftar banquet was hosted for 500 Rohingya refugees in the presence of a number of representatives of Rohingya humanitarian organisations and Malaysian non-governmental organisations.
Addressing the gathering, UAE Ambassador to Malaysia Abdullah Mattar Al Mazrouie spoke about the UAE’s leading role in areas of humanitarian and charitable work.
He said the foundation had provided humanitarian assistance last April for 4,000 Rohingya families in Malaysia.
The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s (OIC’s) Special Representative on Rohingya Muslims of Myanmar, Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar, expressed gratitude to the UAE and the Khalifa Foundation for extending humanitarian assistance to Rohingya refugees in Malaysia.
