The Government of Japan announced that it has conferred the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon, by the Emperor of Japan on Nasser Ahmed Alsowaidi, Chairman of the National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD), in recognition of his outstanding contribution to promoting economic relations between Japan and the United Arab
Emirates.
The decoration award ceremony was held at the InterContinental Abu Dhabi, and was hosted by Kanji Fujiki, Ambassador of Japan to the UAE.
In a speech on the occasion, the Japanese Ambassador said that Alsowaidi has devoted himself to creating and promoting bilateral economic projects with Japanese officials and businessmen, especially since 2006 in his capacity as Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Planning and Economy, now the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development.
He added that among his valuable contributions, Alsowaidi played a significant role in establishing the Abu Dhabi-Japan Economic Council, ADJEC. ADJEC serves as a platform for high-ranking officials and businessmen from Japan and the UAE to further develop bilateral economic relations into more multi-layered, diversified ones by exploring possibilities of collaboration and cooperation, not only in the conventional energy sector that centres on oil and gas, but also in other fields, such as the manufacturing industry, education, human resources development, infrastructure, and media content, among others.
Alsowaidi expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude to His Majesty the Emperor of Japan and the Japanese people for the great honour bestowed upon him.
He also expressed his thanks to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, for their outstanding efforts in developing the friendship relations between the two countries.
