Emirates Gas (EMGAS), a subsidiary of Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC), has achieved the ISO 22301 certification, a global benchmark that measures business preparedness in the face of disruptions.
EMGAS is one of few companies in the oil and gas sector to be recognised for the adoption of international standards for Business Continuity Management and is the first ENOC entity to achieve this certification. Its risk management system provides strategic and tactical capabilities to plan for and respond to incidents or events that may critically disrupt business operations.
“As an entity born in the dynamic, cosmopolitan and visionary city of Dubai, EMGAS is accustomed to the always-on business environment. Ensuring that customers’ needs are fulfilled, no matter the time, circumstance or weather is what contributes to EMGAS’s success, and the ISO 22301 accreditation is a testament to our ability to address all challenges, be it natural or unnatural,” said Zaid Alqufaidi, Managing Director, ENOC Marketing.
“For a company that fuels households and key industrial and commercial establishments across several regions, the adoption of ISO 22301 standards also ensures that we have the systems and procedures and people with high level of competency in place, capable of handling unforeseen incidents, events or issues that could potentially disrupt business,” he added.
Established by the International Standards Organisation in 2012, the ISO 22301 specifies the requirements for a management system to protect against, reduce the likelihood of, and ensure a business is prepared to withstand disruptive incidents.
“From unique crises, to everyday trials, we are more resilient in the face of challenges, a capability that is necessary to survive in this increasingly complex business environment. We consider this accreditation as a milestone in our continuing growth strategy.
“Our alignment with global best practices makes us a distinct entity in the energy industry and is in line with the objectives of the National Crisis & Emergency Authority (NCEMA) of the UAE,” said Nader Al Fardan, General Manager of EMGAS.
He further said: “As EMGAS is expanding into international markets, the adoption of international best practices such as ISO 22301 contributes to enhancing our corporate image amongst the top multinational oil companies operating in the region.”
In January 2016, EMGAS achieved a 4 star rating in Social Responsibility Performance as per the ISO 26000 standard guidelines for its continued efforts in promoting environmental sustainability and safe practices.
