Dubai launches language courses for customs officers

Dubai / WAM

The Training Centre at Dubai Customs launched a language learning programme for customs inspection officers to help them communicate with other clients of different nationalities in their native language.
The centre also helps to enrich the cultural experience of inspectors and adds value to their careers.
The programme is part of the effort of Dubai Customs to spread a message of tolerance among nations and enhance
effective communication between Dubai Customs and their clients. This will also help in developing a successful Expo 2020.
Inspection officers will
learn five languages (Chinese, French, Spanish, Russian and intensive English), with a focus on speaking and listening skills. “We want to help our inspection officers gain more communication skills in different languages to be able to interact effectively with passengers travelling to Dubai from different parts of the world,” said Mohammed Al Ghaffari, Director of HR Department at Dubai Customs.
The programme, in its first stage, will target 100 inspection officers in Dubai Customs and the training for each language will take three months.
Khalid Al Ali, Senior Training Specialist, said that inspectors will get three levels of training for each language.
