DCT offers students alternative pathway for career success

DUBAI / Emirates Business

Following the release of A-Level examination and GCSE results, high school students across the UAE will heave a sigh of relief — but after months of anxious waiting, selecting a future career can still pose a dilemma for many, especially for those who do not prefer to pursue a conventional education. Stepping in to support students with alternative pathways for career success is the Dubai College of Tourism (DCT), established by Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Dubai Tourism), which is encouraging students to look at other options by
offering a diverse programme of vocational education.
Admissions for the September 2019 intake are still open.
DCT provides skill-based vocational and specialised training across five core disciplines — retail, tourism, hospitality, culinary arts and events — with courses designed to bridge the gap between hands-on training and a traditional university degree, and preparing students for rewarding careers.
The world-class vocational courses offered by DCT are designed to empower and prepare students with the knowledge and skills required through practical and theoretical learning. The training includes internships in the industry to help students gain valuable real-world skills and practical applications.
Students also have the option to transition into the workforce on successful completion of their one-year certificate course or continue their vocational education at DCT to obtain a Diploma (an additional six months of study) and then go on to earn an Applied Bachelor’s degree (another year of study). This means that students can obtain their Bachelor’s over a period of two and half years.
Essa Bin Hadher, General Manager of DCT said: “Exam results are an important time in a student’s life, but they also tend to bring a period of anxiety and stress for both students and parents. This year, it is no different. With students readying themselves now for a new journey in their academic life, the Dubai College of Tourism is offering vocational alternatives featuring the best of both worlds — a combination of classroom learning and practical hands-on experience. Our courses will help young students develop their practical skills, industry talents and their self-confidence and prepare them for direct entry into the workforce.
Graduates also find themselves in a predicament on how they should go about applying for a suitable job.
At DCT our courses provide industry-specific training and development, as part of a transformational education experience that will not only help students stand out in the hiring process but also ensure they excel in the workplace.”
