Abu Dhabi / WAM

The Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport, represented in the Municipality of the Dhafra Municipality, signed an investment agreement worth AED222 million to develop the central market in Madinat Zayed in the Dhafra Region in co-operation and partnership with the private sector, according to the Build, Operate, Transfer (BOT) model.
The agreement was signed during the municipality’s participation in the Cityscape Abu Dhabi Exhibition, whose activities were launched at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre on Tuesday.
Eng. Atiq Khamis Al Mazrouei, Acting Director-General of the Al Dhafra Municipality, revealed that the project for developing the central market in Madinat Zayed in the Al Dhafra Region was awarded to one of the local development companies with the aim of renovating the existing building and adding new buildings within the project’s land, and in a manner that would ensure the best utilisation of the land.
The Al Dhafra Municipality and the developer will provide an alternative to shop owners in the current market within the new developmental proposition, in keeping with the municipality’s aim of ensuring customer satisfaction.
The project, according to the
investor’s proposal, will include
two floors, with the ground floor
housing a hypermarket, retail
stores, commercial stores and
entertainment facilities.
The first floor will include restaurants, retail stores, kiosks, as well as a children’s play area, shops, health centres, public hallways, waiting areas, cinema theatre and a multipurpose hall.
The areas outside the project will include shops that could be an alternative for tenants in the current market, parking lots, green areas and walkways.
The project is in the centre of Madinat Zayed encompassing 53,307 square metres (square metre).
Besides the development of the central market project, the Al Dhafra Municipality will review the plans for establishing, investing, managing and operating a popular market for vegetables, fruit, meat and fish at the Ghayathi City with a developmental value worth AED33.733 million. The project will cover an area of 17,252 sq.m.
Al Mazrouei stated that the two projects would meet all the needs of the residents and would help reduce long-distance travel for shopping and entertainment. They would also contribute to tourism and the shopping diversity in the Al Dhafra
Region, while increasing employment opportunities, income and
investment in the area, he added.
