The Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) has teamed up with the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC) to organise the Abu Dhabi Sports Festival — a two-month celebration of sports and community. The first month will see exciting football and volleyball tournament action. Victorious teams will walk away with up to AED 300,000 (USD 81,678) — all in a state of the art indoors arena at ADNEC.
Football action comes into its own, with teams playing in two tournaments from June 9th to 30th 2016: The Abu Dhabi Ramadan Football Cup, and the Abu Dhabi Government Ramadan Football Championship.
As fancy footwork lights up the pitch during Ramadan, the winners of the Abu Dhabi Ramadan Football Championship will walk away with AED 300,000 with the second place team awarded AED 150,000 (USD 40,839)and third place scoring AED 50,000 (USD 13,613).
Meanwhile, the winning team at the Abu Dhabi Government Ramadan Football Championship will take home AED 75,000, with second and third place scoring AED 50,000 and AED 25,000
respectively.
Spiking volleyball action is also on offer during June with the Ramadan Volleyball Championship, where the winning team serves for a grand prize of AED 100,000, with second place netting AED 50,000 and third place manoeuvring for AED 25,000
Apart from the tournament leagues, the two-month event sees the entire UAE community get involved in sports ranging from badminton, CrossFit, gym, fitness and pump track to bounce, climbing wall, spinning class, inline skating, boxing, running, and Mubadala Tennis Championship.
“We want all of society to get fit while forging bonds and learning teamwork. ADSC is committed to making sports and exercise a part of a healthy lifestyle. Sport is an excellent way of raising awareness about – and combatting –
the risks of obesity and diabetes that is becoming prevalent. Sport also
brings together ages and genders to deliver tremendous social and psychological benefits for the family unit,” says
HE Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary of ADSC (Abu Dhabi Sports Council).
Teams interested in entering either of the football tournaments or the volleyball competition are requested to approach the Abu Dhabi Sports Council at the CI Tower’s 7th floor to pay their registration fees. Families can enjoy the Festival’s non-tournament activities at ADNEC without needing to register.
“We’ve organised a variety of sports to ensure we get everyone involved, from experienced players to beginners. The Abu Dhabi Sports Festival brings our favourite sports to an indoor arena so the entire family has something to look forward to, while tournament winners can walk away with massive cash awards for playing well,” says HE Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary of ADSC (Abu Dhabi Sports Council).
