Trump Jr., Manafort to discuss senate panel appearance

A Senate panel said that Donald Trump Jr. and President Donald Trump’s former campaign manager Paul Manafort agreed to discuss handing over documents ahead of a possible public hearing.
The Senate Judiciary Committee also said it would issue a subpoena to compel the testimony of a third witness, Glenn Simpson, who runs Fusion GPS, after he refused an invitation to testify on Wednesday in the committee’s investigation of Russia and unregistered lobbying efforts.
Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley of Iowa had been authorized to issue the subpoenas, with support from the panel’s top Democrat, Dianne Feinstein of California.
“Both Donald Trump, Jr. and Paul Manafort, through their attorneys, have agreed to negotiate to provide the committee with documents and be interviewed by committee members and staff prior to a public hearing,” Grassley and Feinstein said in a statement. “Therefore, we will not issue subpoenas for them tonight requiring their presence at Wednesday’s hearing but
reserve the right to do so in the future.”
The committee scheduled a hearing on Wednesday on
foreign lobbying and had invited Trump Jr., Manafort and Simpson, along with several other witnesses. That hearing may still be held, but the appearances of Trump Jr. and Manafort would come at a later date.
