Dubai Land Department (DLD) recently launched a new specialised reading and strategic innovative thinking initiative under the title ‘DLD Talk’ that comes in line with the department’s ongoing efforts to develop its employees and motivate them to improve their operations and customer services.
His Excellency Sultan Butti bin Mejren, Director General of Dubai Land Department, commented: “As an active government institution, we play an active and supportive role in furthering all initiatives and projects launched by our wise leadership to enrich the nation and citizens in all fields, including the UAE National Reading Law. One of the main objectives of DLD Talk is to generate as many innovative ideas as possible, and we will be training all of our employees in varied ways of thinking to create an innovative work environment. ”
“The implementation of a project of this size helps us to strengthen the department’s efforts in providing an educational work environment based on the exchange of innovative ideas,” said bin Mejren. “As we consider human capital to be one of our most important assets, we need to create an ideal environment that motivates our employees to collaborate and maximise their creative potential. DLD is providing the appropriate channels and tools to implement creative and innovative activities across all of its operations and services.â€
The new initiative is divided into two phases. The first phase encourages all employees to read books or scientific materials in their field of specialisation, summarise what they have read, and then share their newfound knowledge with a group of DLD managers and employees via a lecture or presentation. Phase one is completed with the design of a platform on social media channels under the name ‘Dubai Land Department Talk.’
The activity is aligned with the UAE National Reading Law announced by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, which is the first law of its kind to establish legislative frameworks, executive programmes and specific government responsibilities to consolidate the value of reading in the UAE in a sustainable manner. The law is also the first legislation to give employees the right to specialised reading time within official working hours, and to describe professional or specialised culture as a condition for improving performance and enhancing productivity.
The second phase is entitled ‘Innovative ideas’. For optimal implementation, workshops will be organised for sector and department managers, such as the Blue Ocean Strategy Workshop, to help them explore a new vision for leadership and innovation.
There will also be workshops and discussion sessions organised for all department staff, focusing on various innovative thinking methods such as brainstorming and reflection, among others, to contribute to generating valuable innovative ideas for the department, its employees, and its customers.
Ambitious Objectives
Dubai Land Department is aiming to achieve an ambitious set of goals following the implementation of the specialised reading and strategic innovative thinking initiative, which will run for almost ten months. In addition to establishing a culture of reading and instilling positive habits among employees, the initiative will contribute to the implementation of an unprecedented reading law worldwide and to lending the reading habit an institutional character.
Through DLD’s platform on social media channels, each employee will contribute to making this initiative a success and to disseminating knowledge by sharing the valuable ideas they developed from reading books. The department will also establish an electronic real estate library that will later become a smart library accessible to DLD staff at any time and from anywhere.
