Abu Dhabi General Services Company (Musanada) has completed 72 per cent of Mafraq-Ghuwaifat Road Project and said handing over of first phase will begin later this year, while the whole project will be completed by mid-2017.
The company said the effort is driven by its keen interest in the visions laid out by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and in Plan Capital 2030 where one of the main objectives is to provide an efficient transportation system to serve the emirate and its economy and integrate land transportation networks and services into sustainable infrastructure as per the recognised international standards.
Acting Road Director at Musanada, Hamdan Ahmed Al Mazrouei, said the cost of the project is AED 5.3 billion and its teams are working 24/7 to deliver work as per the project plan in consideration of the road significance in linking the Western Region cities and facilitating commercial transportation on the international road”.
The project includes 6 packages with a manpower of 8500 consultants, engineers and workers, and the construction of 16 new interchanges, improvement of existing interchanges in Mafraq, Hameem, Abu Al Abyad and Madinat Zayed , as well as extensive improvement work of up to 246 kilometres of roads stretching from Mafraq to the international borders with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Ghuwaifat and the industrial hub in Ruwais.
The project also encompasses the construction of new lanes in both directions for the roads between Mafraq and Baynounah Forest Area and between Baraka and Ghuwaifat, lay-by parking for road users, a shoulder on the right side for both directions for emergencies as well as an underpass for camels in areas close to Silaa and Ghuwaifat to serve camel owners in areas adjacent to the road and the camel race track close to Silaa.
