H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Khorfakkan, praised what the university achieved during the academic year 2023/2024 and the ongoing development of the educational process in it in conjunction with the administrative systems in place and the implementation of the regulations approved by the university’s Board of Trustees (BoT) in its previous meeting.
This came when H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan chaired, on Wednesday, the third meeting of the BoT of the University of Khorfakkan, held at the university’s headquarters.
The Sharjah Ruler stressed the important role of the board in following up on the university’s affairs and making decisions that contribute to its development and serving its students, highlighting the efforts of the members who represent various sectors in advancing the university.
The President of the University of Khorfakkan directed to work on offering more new academic programmes that serve the needs and aspirations of the UAE in general and the emirate of Sharjah in particular, enhancing the university’s societal responsibility and role and serving the labour market.
He also directed that admission be opened for students wishing to join the university who graduated from high school during the past three years.
The board approved the signing of a cooperation agreement between the University of Khorfakkan and the University of Exeter regarding the Bachelor of Marine Sciences programme, with another agreement to be signed in the future for master’s and doctoral programmes in the same field.
The board approved a number of new programmes at the university in the field of data intelligence for the bachelor’s and master’s levels, and the marine sciences and business administration programmes at the master’s level, in preparation for sending them to the Ministry of Education commission for approval.
The board also approved the promotion of Dr. Ali Hilal Al Naqbi, Vice Chancellor of University of Khorfakkan, from the rank of Associate Professor to the rank of Professor in Medical Engineering.
During the meeting, the board discussed a number of topics related to the administrative and educational aspects of the university, and reviewed a number of periodic reports related to the university’s performance.
The board reviewed the university chancellor’s report on work developments, the progress of the teaching process, and the most important results achieved since the last meeting of the BoT. It also included ongoing efforts to implement the university’s goals and achieve its aspirations.
The board also reviewed the reports of the academic, financial, compliance and audit committees, and the Financial Resources Development Committee, and the most prominent recommendations that would develop the various fields at the university and accelerate the processes of scientific and academic progress.
On the sidelines of the BoT meeting, the President of the University of Khorfakkan was briefed on the designs of the university housing project, which will provide male and female students with adequate housing, and a stimulating environment during the study period. The project, on which work has already begun, includes two buildings, one for female students and the other for male students.
He also visited the female students’ rest area, which has an area of 1,250 square metres and a height of 18 metres, and was designed in the Andalusian style.
The rest area was implemented in large areas within the space separating the university buildings to provide its students with a place to study, or work together on scientific projects. It also provided outlets for selling food and other items that students need.
