17 killed, many hurt in Thailand mass shooting

An attacker using military-style weapons killed at least 17 people in Thailand and appeared to livestream the assault on Facebook.
Many others were injured in the incident on Saturday and the assailant remains at large. The shooting took place in Korat in Nakhon Ratchasima province of Bangkok. The attacker targeted Korat’s city center, including the Terminal 21 shopping mall, and posted live updates on Facebook before his page was shut down.
Police said the suspect was believed to be an army corporal and remained inside the mall.
Video clips showed people running away and cowering behind cars as thunderous shots rang out in the shopping district.
Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-Ocha in a statement said security forces were trying to apprehend the attacker.
A Thai hashtag that translates as #KoratShooting rapidly became among the most active globally on Twitter with well over 1.5 million tweets.
