Expo 2020 Dubai participated in this year’s edition of Think Science, a nation-wide initiative under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The three-day event took place at the Dubai World Trade Centre during April 17-19, and engaged hundreds of UAE youth to develop, design and build science-based innovations that respond to society’s most pressing needs. At Think Science, Expo 2020 Dubai led a series of interactive activities for visitors and explained the wide range of opportunities available to the youth today to participate in its journey towards 2020, in the run up to the mega event.
Expo 2020 Dubai’s participation in Think Science is in line with its vision to be a platform to inspire and empower youth to use their imagination to influence social, scientific and cultural progress. During its participation at Think Science, Expo 2020 Dubai displayed unique and interactive activities that provided visitors with a better understanding of the Expo, its impact locally and on the region and the critical role youth will play towards making the mega event and the legacy it will leave a success.
Expo 2020 Dubai’s participation at Think Science included the ‘tree of opportunity’, a platform that allowed UAE youth to express their hopes and dreams for the future. The display also took visitors on a historic journey of discovery and shared the story behind the excavation of the artefact, which served as the inspiration for the new Expo 2020 Dubai logo. In addition, Expo 2020 Dubai dedicated a quiz corner that featured riddles and fun facts about past World Expo inventions and highlighted their impact on the world. Finally, Think Science allowed Expo 2020 Dubai to directly engage with the local community and provide visitors with an overview of YouthConnect; Expo’s highly interactive annual forum specifically designed by youth for the youth. It also drew interest to the 2016 edition coming up in November which will be filled with fun, educational, interactive workshops and activities that provide tangible skills to empower youth to take a leading role in the journey to 2020 and beyond.
Commenting on Expo 2020 Dubai’s presence at Think Science, Manal AlBayat, Vice President of Engagement said, “We are working towards building a knowledge-based economy that is guided by the STEAMs and the desire of tomorrow’s pioneers to innovate. Think Science embodies this spirit by connecting young scientists to organisations in the science and technology sectors, and encourages them to be proactive and take initiative to make a positive change and create a better future. The greatest World Expos have been those that have captured the minds of people all over the world, inspired the youth to innovate and ultimately, unlocked their potential to build a better future.â€
As part of its ambition of bringing people together and building partnerships, Expo 2020 Dubai has an active engagement agenda of platforms and initiatives targeted at youth.
