Geneva / WAM

The UAE, represented by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), chaired the preparatory workshop for the World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-2019), held at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.
The workshop was attended by more than 300 delegates from the 193 member states of the ITU, in addition to representatives of international and regional organisations, manufacturers and many of those concerned with the agenda items of the WRC-2019. Seven round-table meetings were held with the participation of chairpersons of groups concerned with the agenda items of WRC-2019, as well as the chairmen and representatives of the regional groups representing the member states of the ITU.
Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, TRA Director-General, said, “The participation of the UAE represented by the TRA constitutes a part of our ongoing efforts to dedicate the strong presence of the UAE in shaping the future of the global telecommunications sector. The constant coordination and communication with the ITU is part of our strategy to optimise the use of modern communication technologies in their various forms to support sustainable development efforts in all countries of the world, especially as the UAE heads the Arab
Spectrum Management Group.”
Khalid Al Awadhi, Manager Broadcasting and Space Services at TRA and Chairman of the WRC-2019 Preparatory Meeting, said, “This workshop has provided participants with the opportunity to exchange views and gain a better understanding of the most important issues and items on the agenda of WRC-2019 and the preliminary draft views and common positions of various stakeholders.”

“This workshop is one of the means used by the ITU to continue sharing and exchanging information. The WRC-2019 agenda items are distributed at the beginning of the course to various working groups, which in turn communicate and exchange studies and views on the agenda items. The workshop contributes to providing a platform for all concerned to present different views and discuss obstacles faced by the study groups,” Al Awadhi added.
