TRA supports NAI’s efforts in ITU

The General Authority for Regulating the Telecommunications Sector (TRA) announced supporting the efforts exerted by the National Academic Institutions (NAI), authorities and universities to participate in the activities of the ITU’s three sectors: the Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU–T), the Telecommunication Development Sector (ITU–D), and the Radio communication Sector
(ITU–R). TRA has recently approved the joining of the Higher Colleges of Technology to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and it’s currently exerting immense efforts to support the participation of Zayed University in this prestigious UN
organization.
In this context, HE Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, UAE TRA Director General, “The academic sector is a vital contributor to the development process as it plays an enlightening and knowledge -based role. It is also a key partner in fortifying UAE’s leadership in various sectors. Our support to the national academic authorities comes in the framework of the wise leadership’s directives and strategies that aim at empowering young national competencies, and preparing a generation of experts able to lead and keep up with the rapidly changing ICT Sector. We granted this approval to the national universities to implement the ITU’s resolutions that were made during the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2014 in Korea.”
“We affirm our support to all national academic and educational institutions that are aiming to participate in the work of ITU and we encourage them to seize this significant strategic opportunity which will enable UAE students to work with and learn from the most prominent experts in the world. This experience will enable our students to explore closely the international organizations’ nature of work and their mechanisms of formulation and decision making. We are confident that their contributions will have a positive and tangible effect on the sustainable development process that the UAE is undergoing in the fields of knowledge and science.” he added.
