EMIRATES BUSINESS
The sixth edition of the SIKKA Art Fair continues to host an exciting line-up of music, dance, plays, poetry recitals, improvisational performances and open- air cinema screenings till March 24, featuring local and international talents at the Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood in Bur Dubai.
SIKKA Art Fair is the flagship arts and cultural initiative organised by Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) as part of “Dubai Art Seasonâ€, held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa Bint Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture).
Now in its 2nd week running, visitors to the fair can enjoy art, music, food and entertainment throughout the alleys of Al Fahidi. One of this year’s highlights is the live, out-door cinema screenings delivered by Cinema Akil, an independent cinema which aims to provide movies from across the world to audiences in Dubai with the aim to raise awareness about the cinema industry.
Lubna Ahmed Al-Shamsi, Project Manager of Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, said, “We are glad to see such a positive record of attendance at this year’s SIKKA Art Fair. The participants represent some of the best talents across the GCC. This year’s edition highlights the participation and artists portfolios from both emerging and established artists from the UAE and across the GCC, which reflects the rapid development of the artistic scene in the region. Dubai Culture is keen to provide the necessary platforms on which emerging talents are able to perform and showcase their best work. In line with the Dubai Government’s vision of consolidating Dubai’s position as an international center for creativity and innovation, we are determined to continue setting the benchmark for aspiring artists and creative minds across the regionâ€.
The focus in 2016 is on identifying the UAE and the wider GCC region’s aspiring and emerging local talent.
