Saudi German Hospital Ajman (SGH-Ajman) saved the life of a 69-year-old Asian who was admitted to the emergency department with a poor health condition. He was transferred directly to the intensive care unit since he was suffering from cardiovascular diseases, had a stroke affecting his left brain and other serious health conditions.
The patient was administered with anti-platelet drugs and anticoagulant (blood clotting) medications, as he was hospitalised in intensive care unit for five days, until an unpleasant surprise took place. A sudden hypotension occurred, and patient lost consciousness. It was found, that the percentage of hemoglobin decreased to 6.5.
The medical team led by Dr Mohamed Raafat- Vascular Surgeon, Dr Mohamed Al-Husseini- Radiology Department, Dubai, Dr Ahmed Abdul Wahid- Radiology Department- Ajman, Dr Tasneem- General Surgery- Ajman, along with ICU, Neurology and Anesthesia Doctors, diagnosed a massive hematoma behind the peritoneal membrane in the right side, calcifications of the abdominal aorta and the main pelvic arteries and suspicion of ulcer in the wall of the right main pelvic artery.
Dr Mohamed Raafat, Vascular Surgery Specialist successfully performed a peripheral vascular catheterisation placing a covered stent at the exact point of the arterial wall damage resulting in complete sealing of the tear with stopping of the bleeding and stabilising of the vital signs of the patient and his hemoglobin levels returned back to normal, after blood transfusion and remained steady.
