The Charity Sector at the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai (IACAD) has announced that the charitable donations by the Department worth AED72,641,580.05 in 2019. The donations reached over 177,000 beneficiaries over the past year included education, health, housing, food and others.
The annual report issued by the Charity Sector at IACAD indicated that the largest percentage of
donations were to help prisoners in Dubai Courts, as part of Yak Al Oun initiative, and amounted to AED-
16,500,000. A further AED4,621,032 was donated for education, AED-6,271,501 for healthcare and AED17,032,791.6 for housing.
Total donations through the radio programme reached AED745,063.15, and AED8,232,492.1 through partnership with Emarat Al Youm newspaper, respectively. An additional AED10,000,000 was donated to Zayed Dialysis Centre, while remaining proceeds went to other services and were valued at AED 9,238,699.55.
Commenting on the announcement, Ahmed Darwish Al Muhairi, Executive Director of the Charity Sector at IACAD, said, “The Charity Sector at IACAD, in cooperation with our partners from the public and private sectors, continues to improve and diversify humanitarian initiatives aimed at strengthening cohesion in society. We are also keen to ensure that all humanitarian proceeds reach beneficiaries in a transparent manner.â€
This is in line with our endeavor to govern charitable and humanitarian activities in accordance with highest international standards.”
IACAD launched three charitable initiatives in cooperation with public and private sector partners, namely Mudon Al Khair, Yak Al Oun and Zayed Dialysis Centre. As much as AED42,500,000 was donated to Mudon Al Khair, in coordination with Sheikh Zayed Housing Programmeme and Emarat Al Youm newspaper. Furthermore, prisoners received benefits worth AED21,444,260 as part of the Yak Al Oun initiative and in coordination with Emarat Al Youm newspaper and Dubai Courts.
Donations to Zayed Dialysis Centre amounted to AED 30,000,000. The latter was in cooperation with Dubai Health Authority (DHA), Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation, and contributing charities, namely Dar Al Ber Society, Beit Al Khair Society and Dubai Charity Association. Dubai Islamic Bank and Noor Bank contributed to the initiative as well.
Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Al Habtoor, Director of the Department of Zakat and Charity Funds at IACAD, said, “We thank all those who support charitable activities in the emirate of Dubai, and we also thank all government and private entities that support the humanitarian initiatives supervised by IACAD. This reaffirms the importance of joint community efforts to bolster charitable work in the emirate.”
Dr. Al Habtoor added, “In 2020: Towards the next 50, during which government efforts are accelerating to advance the economic and social development in Dubai, we will continue to improve our charitable initiatives. This is in line with government directives and reaffirms Dubai’s leading position globally when it comes to sustainable charitable and humanitarian initiatives.”
