The Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR), launched “A Book in an Hour†initiative, as part of the month of reading.
The centre will host a prominent writer on every Monday of this month. The authors will present their books in the UAE Federation Library lounge at the ECSSR complex in Abu Dhabi.
The “Month of Reading” is an annual occasion during which the government and private institutions launch their own initiatives that encourage society to transform reading into a daily habit. The initiative contributes to building a society of readers who are, through their increased understanding of the world around them, capable of leading sustainable national development.
Prof. Jamal Sanad Al-Suwaidi, Director-General of the ECSSR, said that reading is an essential feature of civilised human societies, and that nation cannot make progress without understanding the importance of reading. He added that the amount of reading a society engages in correlates with the country’s strength and future development.
He said that the ECSSR has taken the lead in launching initiatives to promote reading in the community. He said that the UAE Federation Library, which is affiliated with the ECSSR and considered one of the most important libraries at the regional and international levels, is the largest library in the UAE that specialises in the political, economic, social, strategic, and military fields.
He said that the UAE leadership is striving to consolidate reading as a societal value that is vital to self-development. He commended this effort and called upon all national institutions to do their part by contributing to its success.
On Monday, during the first session of “A Book in An Hour,” initiative Ali Abu Al-Reesh, a journalist with the al-Ittihad newspaper, discussed his book titled: “Zayed: The Moral Personality”.
Abu Al-Reesh holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Ain Shams University, Egypt. He is a writer and novelist who has written ten novels, two plays, and a prose collection.
