The Bruneian government will continue to ensure job security of locals in the oil and gas sector amid the gloomy global economic situation, said Minister of Energy and Industry at the Prime Minister’s Office Col. (Rtd) Mohammad Yasmin Umar. In his closing remarks at the 12th Legislative Council (LegCo) session yesterday (March 23), Mohammad Yasmin urged locals employed in the hydrocarbon industry to come forward if they are facing unresolved issues.
“The government will do its best to defend the job security of locals despite the challenging economic climate. This is because the government is very concerned with this matter.
“Our government is striving to meet and listen to the voices of our locals at various oil and gas companies to see the reality of their situation,” said the minister, adding that many locals in the sector had been assisted in the matter. The minister went on to say that the government has reviewed the issues in a “comprehensive and holistic manner involving all parties” to avoid one-sided views.
