Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the 3rd edition of the Unmanned Systems Exhibition and Conference (UMEX), and the Simulation Exhibition and Conference (SimTEX), were opened on Sunday by His Highness Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), UMEX and SimTEX are leading platforms for the full spectrum of civil defence and military segments, such as marine, air and land search and rescue, as well as aerial photography. Jointly organised by ADNEC, and the General Command of the UAE Armed Forces, the 2018 edition of UMEX and SimTEX runs from February 25-27.
A total of 122 international and local exhibitors are taking part in the event, which reflects the growth and investment in unmanned systems technology in the UAE and other GCC countries.
His Highness Sheikh Saif was accompanied by leading military officers and by government officials.
UMEX 2018 & SimTEX 2018 have witnessed strong international exhibitor demand from specialised defence and security companies.
HH Sheikh Saif also attended the launch of Emirates Defence Contractors Council (EDDC). EDDC aims to achieve optimal communication among national companies and organisations working in the defence industry to identify their requirements and develop national capabilities in a sustainable manner.
The exhibition space at UMEX 2018 & SimTEX is around 25 percent more than at the previous event. The strong interest in UMEX and SimTEX from key players in the global defence industry reinforces Abu Dhabi’s status as a preferred destination for specialised global exhibitions and conferences.
A conference themed ‘Simulation and Next Generation Technologies’ is being held in parallel with the dual event to highlight the advanced engagement of unmanned systems technologies, Brigadier General Rashid Mohammed Al Shamsi, Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee of UMEX and SimTEX said.
The conference will discuss future developments, opportunities and challenges across the globe, as well as the development of infrastructure, allowing government, simulation manufacturing and academia professionals to share information.
Al Bowardi receives ministers at UMEX 2018 Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Bowardi, Minister of State for Defence Affairs, received on Sunday a number of ministers during the Unmanned Systems Exhibition and Conference, UMEX 2018.
During the meetings, the parties discussed cooperation and coordination mechanisms between the UAE and the countries of the visiting delegations, and means to develop ties to serve their common interests in the military and defence sectors.
Deals worth AED291.6mn signed on day 1

Ten deals worth AED291.6 million have been signed on the first day of the 3rd edition of UMEX, and SimTEX, the organisers said at a news conference on Sunday.
The UAE Armed Forces and a number of private companies signed deals to procure new equipment and upgrade their technology. The deals included agreements on buying of drones and technical support systems.
One major deal signed was with the Abu Dhabi Autonomous Systems Investments Company (ADASI), for the supply of aircraft, according to Major Saeed Mohamed Al Yamahi, the spokesman for UMEX and SimTex. The agreement is worth AED72,493,500.
Being held at ADNEC, UMEX and SimTEX cover a wide range of products for civil and military use, including marine, air and land search and rescue and aerial photography.
