UAE inks 3 pacts for devp of Egypt’s date palm sector

The Khalifa International Date Palm Award and Agricultural Innovation has signed three memoranda of understanding, MoU, with the Ministry of Trade and Industry, and the governorates of New Valley and Giza in Egypt to develop the palm date sector.
The signing ceremony was attended by Tarek Qabil, Minister of Trade and Industry, Juma Mubarak Al Junaibi, UAE Ambassador to Arab Republic of Egypt and Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States, Dr. Abdelouahhab Zaid, Secretary-General of the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, and governors of Giza and New Valley.
Under the MoU with the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the award will provide technical and consultancy assistance and transfer technology in value-added chains to the date palm sector in Egypt. The second MoU calls for the development of the date palm complex in the New Valley Governorate, while the third MoU includes the establishment of cold stores for dates.
The Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation is co-ordinating with the Ministry of Trade and Industry to organise the 3rd Egyptian Date Palm Festival at Siwa Oasis from 8th to 10th November under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
