Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), participated in the ‘For you Somalia’ campaign, which was launched by the Emirates Red Crescent to alleviate millions of people suffering from famine and war in Somalia.
This came as part of DEWA’s commitment to the community, and its efforts to achieve the objectives of the #Year of Giving, and to consolidate the UAE’s global standard in the field of humanitarian work by contributing to the development of a sustainable development framework for the UAE,
“Our participation in this campaign is part of our efforts to support the Year of Giving, under the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and in line with the directives of Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. With these directives, we have launched and supported charitable initiatives, strengthened community responsibility among public and private sector institutions in the UAE, and supported the Emirates Red Crescent’s efforts at the local and international levels. We were honoured to donate 20,000 cartons of Mai Dubai bottled water through the humanitarian campaign to help the Somali people whose conditions have been affected by a lack of food, water and medicine, due to drought and the repercussions of the events in Somalia,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA.

Al Tayer praised the efforts of the UAE Red Crescent, which he called ‘an ambassador of the Emirati people to help those in need’. He said that DEWA is proud to take part in the charitable and humanitarian work undertaken by the UAE as part of its track record of charitable and relief initiatives, which were initiated by the forefathers of the UAE, and are continued by its current loyal leaders.

He added, “Through its participation in this campaign, DEWA continues its humanitarian and community work, which is a vital component since it is included in our strategic objectives. DEWA has approved 12 main programmes to provide 27 social and humanitarian initiatives that directly support the three themes of the Year of Giving initiative, and are being implemented in cooperation with local and international bodies and leading institutions in the field of humanitarian and community work.

“The social and volunteering programmes that DEWA have launched include ‘Risalat Khair’, or ‘Message of Giving’ to support international relief efforts, educational programmes, and infrastructure development projects in poor countries, while ‘Al Khair Donations’ was launched to donate used items to poor countries. ‘Al Khair Accelerators’ in cooperation with UAE Water Aid Foundation, Suqia, encourages research to develop innovative solutions to produce water using solar energy,” concluded Al Tayer.
