President of Ireland Michael Higgins, received at the presidential palace in Dublin, Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC) and her accompanying delegation.
The FNC delegation included Abdul Aziz Abdullah Al Zaabi, Second Deputy Speaker of the FNC, Dr Mohammed Abdullah Al Mahrazi, Dr. Saeed Abdullah Al Mutawa, Azza Sulaiman bin Suleiman, Saeed Saleh Al Rumaithi, Hamad bin Ghulaita Al Ghafli, and Dr. Saeed Mohammed Ali Al Shamsi, UAE Ambassador to the Republic of Ireland.
Dr Al Qubaisi conveyed the regards of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, to the President of Ireland.
She noted that the UAE leadership and government were keen on strengthening ties between the two countries. “The UAE people have respect for the friendly Irish people,” Al Qubaisi said.
The President of Ireland asked the FNC Speaker to convey his regards to the UAE President, VP and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi. She referred to extensive opportunities for more cooperation in all fields.
While welcoming Dr. Al Qubaisi and her accompanying delegation, President Higgins stressed the importance of the visit in furthering the ties. He noted, “The visit is first one paid to Ireland by Serving Speaker of an Arab Parliament.” The Irish President stressed the pivotal role of parliaments in developing cooperation between the two countries, as they complement the role of governments’ work.
President Higgins said the UAE-Irish relations were growing in all areas, citing the mutual visits of officials of the two countries.
The two parties discussed ways to bolster ties, focussing on economy, investment, education, culture, expertise exchange, as well as initiatives adopted by the UAE regarding education, and innovation. They also discussed the situation in the region and the refugees’ issue.
