61 percent of the AED678 million upgraded road network and interchange project at Abu Dhabi International Airport has been completed, according to
Abu Dhabi General Services Company (Musanada).
The project will connect the new terminal of the airport to the Abu Dhabi-Shahama (E10) highway, and will provide a direct access to and from the terminal towards Abu Dhabi as well as Dubai and Al Ain cities.
Under the project, the E10 road will become broader from four to five lanes in both directions, and the Presidential Flight road from two to three lanes in both directions.
“The project is one of the critical land transport projects currently being executed by Musanada, which are approved by Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport (DMAT), as part of its efforts to realise the vision of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and to implement the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, delivering strategic projects aiming to achieve the objectives of Abu Dhabi Plan,” Hamad Khalifa Al Murar, Musanada’s Acting CEO, said.
“This is one of the critical projects under taken by Musanada in cooperation with DMAT, including strategic follow-up during project execution,” Faisal Ahmed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of Highways at Department at Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport, added.
Al Murar added that the company is actively implementing the business plan as per the agreed schedule. Phase One of the project has been successfully completed whereby Interchange A2 has opened for traffic recently, in light of full compliance with highest international standards which include preservation of resources and the environment.
AED678 million project comprises the construction of the interchange to Abu Dhabi International Airport through four bridges serving as entry and exit points to the terminal, the construction of an underpass leading to Yas Island, and an overpass connecting Yas Island and Airport City A.
The works will also include widening of the (E10) road from the existing four lanes to five lanes in both directions to a total length of 8km, the construction of a secondary 3.7km 3-lane road network between Interchange No.6 and (E12) road that will connect the Yas Island underpass to the (E10) road. In addition, the road between (E10) and the presidential flight building will be widened from two lanes to dual three lanes in both directions in addition to the construction of a bridge that will serve the presidential flight and Masdar City. A storm water pumping station with the associated storm water drainage network will also be constructed to serve the E12/E10 interchange together with a road lighting network and intersections with traffic lights.
