UAE first country to criminalise hate speech

DUBAI / WAM

The UAE is the first country to issue a law that criminalises the hate speech and prevent threats to peace and stability as experienced by other Arab and Islamic countries, according to Dr Hanif Hassan Al Qassim, Chairman of the Geneva Centre for Human Rights Advancement and Global Dialogue. He made the statement during a seminar by his cultural majlis in Dubai.
Thanks to the political wisdom of the UAE’s leadership, it became the first country to issue a law that criminalises racism in order to preserve peace, co-existence and compassion for more than 200 nationalities in the country, he said. Humans can enjoy freedom of expression and beliefs, as long as they do not harm each other’s rights.
This idea represents the vision
of the UAE leadership to achieve
social stability for all of its residents, he added.
He added that choosing the theme of the forum which deals with attempts to spread the hate speech among members of Muslim communities comes within the framework of supporting the activities and programmes of civil society institutions aimed at promoting awareness among all Emiratis.
