We already have smartphones, smartwatches, smart lights, smart ovens and smart TVs, and at CES 2017, Miliboo Corporation will be hoping that the smart mirror will be the next gadget to make a connection with consumers. Crowdfunding sites Kickstarter and Indiegogo are littered with failed attempts to take smart mirrors mainstream, but where others have stumbled, Miliboo believes it will succeed.
Its first smart mirror, the EKKO, has already scooped a CES Innovation Award ahead of its official launch. What’s more, unlike other companies that have attempted to get the concept from the initial design stages to the average hallway or bathroom wall, Miliboo is first and foremost a furniture company adding smarts to a clean design, rather than a tech company trying to mimic a mirror-maker.
“We imagine and manufacture a range of furniture that are not gadgets but real innovations that bring consumers considerable added value,†said Guillaume Lachenal, Miliboo Founder and CEO. “We have created a genuine piece of furniture which reflects users’ personalities and allows them to customize their experience depending on their needs.â€
So, the EKKO reflects its owner’s personality as well as his or her appearance. The final third of the mirror can be used to display a news feed, YouTube channels and music playlists, a timer, the weather forecast or traffic information. But what it displays exactly will be down to how the accompanying smartphone app is configured.
Miliboo claims that thanks to the unstoppable rise of the selfie, people have never spent so much of their time looking at themselves and therefore it’s only logical that this time isn’t wasted.
