Ajman University has announced a partnership with the University Network of the UN, UNI, UN-Habitat’s partnership with universities worldwide.
UNI, previously known as HPUI, the Habitat Partner University Initiative, was introduced as a means of promoting cooperation between UN-Habitat and institutions of higher education, as well as facilitating exchange and cooperation among universities globally. UNI promotes universities becoming closer partners of cities, actively engaged in problem solving, thus closing the gap between academia and practice and encouraging collaborative learning.
UNI promotes and facilitates the dissemination of educational and research products of its members and involve scholars, researchers and students in a number of activities. UN-Habitat is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all.
Dr. Gisela Loehlein, Consultant, Internationalisation Department and faculty member at the College of Engineering at Ajman University, explained that, “Ajman University is the first university in the United Arab Emirates to enter this network of higher educational institutions. Around 100 highly reputed educational hubs are currently part of this network. The UN selects its partners solely based on their specialisations and academic achievements along with their positive contribution to the environment and community around them.”
The network will connect Ajman University with the network of academic partners giving it access to the extensive publications, data products, scientific information, internships, training and resource tools available across the interdisciplinary establishments.
Joint ventures such as symposia, workshops, development of programmes and exchange of expertise on the common platform is also on the agenda for mutual cooperative measures.
