Academics, scholars, heritage specialists and researchers will gather in Abu Dhabi for the 4th GCC Heritage and Oral History conference, on the theme, ‘Technology and Sustainable Gulf Heritage: Archiving Reality and Future Prospects.’
Organised by Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi), the conference will welcome delegates from history and heritage departments of the Gulf Cooperation Council’s leading universities, institutions and other research entities, along with a number of sociologists and historians, at a seminar to be held at Park Rotana Abu Dhabi hotel on October 16-17.
The conference is the latest in a series inaugurated in 2010 and held annually by TCA Abu Dhabi to study the activities of entities and authorities related to cultural heritage in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region.
Attracting specialised entities, authorities and innovators in the field of technical conservation and documentation of intangible heritage, the conference will focus on the sustainability of heritage collection and preservation.
Over the two days, delegates will discuss the adoption of a unified GCC strategy to conserve and archive intangible heritage elements, promote intangible heritage and technical archiving innovations and explore the use of using modern technologies in heritage preservation and archiving.
The programme, formulated to expand on findings and legacy achievements from earlier conferences, will propose recommendations during seminar sessions presented by academics, researchers and experts to drive the regional cultural and heritage process forward, as well as through a series of submitted conference papers.
Delegates will also discuss steps being taken by government and community entities to document and preserve their oral history, and share best practice and achievements.
